Made this guide so people can get an idea of what ES weapons/S-ranks to make; but please remember it is all objective and you can do as you wish; it is not a rule of thumb. If anyone has any opinions, please share.
Why do they get called ES weapons and S-ranks?
ES weapons are the correct name that Sega has given them (ES, meaning Special) for, S-ranks is a term people have used to call them because it is the S-rank reward in Challenge Mode.

What makes ES weapons good:
Because any top tier un-reduced special can be added to any ES weapons.

What's the difference between slicer and j-cutter?:
+30 ATP after grind (Jcutter) and Aesthetics (Jcutter is waocool ninja star)

What is SNS?
A combo: 'Special Normal Special', if the Normal is pressed before the 1st Special hits the enemy then that special attack receives the accuracy of a normal attack thus being glitched. You can glitch and do this combo in many ways but SN is the most widely used and referred to when using glitches.

Why is Blizzard in the useful specials, I thought it was trash?
It used to be, had a hard-cap of 20% before its calculation took place for it to work. But this cap was removed and it was raised to 80% the same rate as Arrest.
What is reduction?
Non-sacrificial Special attacks would get reduced by decreasing their chance of effectiveness when attached to all multi-hit/target weapons. Depending on what weapon can vary from 1/2 to 1/4. So essentially the special would be useless unless it was Sacrificial (Berserk/Spirit/Charge) or is on a Saber/Rifle/Handgun.

List of weapons & reductions:
Twin Sword = N/A
Partisan = 1/2
Sword = 1/2
Dagger = 1/2
Double Saber = 1/2
Launcher = 1/2
Slicer =1/3
Shot= 1/3
Mechgun= 1/3

  • Most 10 Star and above rare weapons do not suffer a reduction, exceptions include Asteron Belt and Zero Divide.
  • All ES Weapons are un-reduced and thus suffer from none of this.
1. Load up the quest ''East Tower'' located in episode 2 multimode (this can be done in any difficulty for ease of play).
2. Go find Hopkins in pioneer (same place as in Gallon's shop, hidden in a corner at the bottom).
3. Talk to Paganini his father about gathering data for him.
4. Go to Towers and kill everything.
5. Make sure to talk to the large terminal at the end before warping back to pioneer.
6. Talk to Paganini again to hand over the data.
7. Finish quest by handing it in at the counter.

If you wish to do West Tower also for adding %'s (sphereing) it works essentially the same, getting data for Paganini, however the location of the terminal in est is not at the end of towers, but rather in seabed so make sure to get this before completing all of the towers.
(E) = Essential
(NE) = Non Essential but fun/decent/helpful/niche.

If you have multiple classes it's good to get ES that are shared across them.
For example, if you have Rangers & Hunters you can get your needles later and get Jcutters/Slicers as both Hunters and Rangers can use them.

You can make a Claw for Ledge dropping on many characters.

Arrest slicer/jcutter- (E)
A 4-Target weapon with an easy SNS glitch to increase accuracy.
I would say Arrest slicer/jcutter is the most important HU srank due to its ability to control spawns, especially when used with 501/2.

Blizzard Slicer/J-cutter - (NE)
A 4-Target weapon with an easy SNS glitch to increase accuracy.
Having Blizzard instead of/as well as Arrest can bring plenty of options to the table while allowing you to control enemies that cannot be arrested (machine enemies) and also most enemies. While it's not essential to use when you have Arrest it can still be very useful. The reasons behind this are that frozen enemies EVP is reduced more than Arrested enemies and this helps with your accuracy. The downside is that it lasts 3 seconds instead of Arrest's 5 seconds and also Blizzard cannot be stacked (re-applied without having to wait for effects to run out) while Arrest can. Ideally, Blizzard would be used on enemies with higher EVP and lower HP. Combine with v501/2 to improve its ability.

Hell slicer/jcutter- (E)
This along with 502 & SNS on the correct enemies, can literally mop the floor, specifically in EP2.

Zalure handgun- (NE)
Great for bosses, and larger enemies to give you that extra DMG, especially in solo.
Note: it's lvl 21

Zalure Slicer/Jcutter- (NE)
De Rol le/Barba ray, gal gryphon in flight, multiple enemies grouped. Nice for that extra DMG, especially in solo.

Gush Mechgun-(NE)
One use would be on Falz when he is invincible. A Gush Raygun, however, would more than suffice if not be better because of accuracy issues.

Demons twin- (NE)
The fleshie bonus to Demons wipes out enemies so easily especially once they have been arrested/frozen (EVP reduction). I prefer this on hunter/force than mechguns, personally due to having that 20 ATA but it's not as easily glitchable.

Hell Twin - (NE)
Can be nice in some spawns, niche but fun. Some info about Hell & enemies here.

Gush Mechgun-(NE)
One use would be on Falz when he is invincible. A Gush Raygun, however, would more than suffice if not be better because of accuracy issues.
Arrest needle- (NE)
Because of casts boosts Arrest Needle is not essential for them to use. A spread needle will more than suffice. After a certain hit % SN (this is high though, around 50 ish) will even be better than Arrest needle for casts in many/most situations, for more info about this check out: this.

Use v501/502 to improve its ability.

Hell Needle- (E)
This along with 502 on the right enemies, can literally mop the floor, specifically in EP2.

Hell Shot - (NE)
Same as the above, just slower & more range.
Some people call it more niche than needle and some people prefer it, I personally prefer the shot.

Berserk Needle- (NE)
Can do some serious damage, and seriously fun Very good in Episode 1 but more situational than a Berserk/charge arms.

Demons Mechguns/Needle- (NE)
While casts have reduced Demons in Ultimate, larger enemies like Girtabululu and Dorphons can be dealt with using it; specifically when you are solo and have no SD. A Demons Raygun/Laser/SoF will make do, however.

Zalure Handgun/Rifle- (NE)
If everyone was super rich I would suggest rifle, however, if you plan to play more than one class a handgun can be transferred/shared while rifle is ranger only.
What you lack from handgun is some ATA of which rangers do not lack and a bit of range; handgun though has more than enough range to tag the bosses quickly, and the larger enemies when required.
Can always make a Rifle later.

Zalure Launcher-(NE)
Can be nice for tagging gal gryphon as he flies over. Very niche as you could just use Jcutter here.

Great for groups when solo, specifically when levelling.
The range of the shot will tag all the enemies at a distance with ease.

Hell Scythe- (NE)
With 502 can be decent on groups of Satelite lizards. Some info about Hell & enemies here.

Berserk Launcher- (NE)
Piercing blast which can destroy multiple targets lined up. Great on bosses.

Hell Launcher- (NE)

Arrest needle- (E)

Fleshies require Arrest needle to even be useful at all in terms of controlling the enemies.

SoF is the same as a slicer with Demons but has more accuracy because of being able to be hunted with hit % and also having more range. However, the Jcutter can be nice for some situations as it has the extra target, like multiple enemies in front of a girta in which you're trying to demons.

Hell Twin - (NE)
Can be nice in some spawns, niche but fun. Some info about Hell & enemies here.

Due to lack of ATP, they suffer from not being able to use a lot of the above sranks. Here are some options.
