As commonly discussed on the discord, there is not really common ground on this one.
Let me be clear about one thing. The entire "meta" around Dark Flow (DF) is not the problem here. It's one of if not the most powerful weapon in the game that enables really really fast an smooth runs, if wielded by a skilled Hunter. That Hunter surely wants to utilize that weapon as often as possible. And as heated as PUBLIC games can get sometimes, they will catch a Resta every once in a while, disabling the DF.
Wether or not that Resta was intentional creates some frictions every once in a while. Especially new Forces dont really understand why they are "not allowed" to resta, when they, and other struggling party members could benefit from it.
On the other hand we have the seasoned players, that swing their DF as natural as breathing and carrying entire parties by doing it. It took them a lot of effort to do it and kind of shows the skill ceiling of this game. And understandably so, players love that expression of skill.
The real issue lies within interactions when things dont go smoothly. A DF user dies over and over again, needs do be revived, rebuffed, needs to setup again... in those cases its more disruptive to the party, than helpful. An unknowing FO tries to keep the party alive, thinking its the fulfillment of their role but actually disabling a crucial DF swing resulting in something like a baranz obliterating the group by staying alive too long.
Yes, you could theoretically implement something like a command (that could be keybinded easily) to enable/disable any kind of incoming healing, but would that really solve the problem? Id rather suggest some ideas to make public games a better experience for all party members that mostly align with discussions about it on discord.
As the FO
1) Please accept the request of not being healed with Resta
2) Dont feel bad for healing other party members than the ones who requested no Resta, even if it hits the DF user by accident
3) As an expression of your own skill ceiling, try to learn and apply "self resta" https://wiki.pioneer2.net/w/Game_mechanics#Self-Resta
As the DF user
1) Accept, that you unintentionally enforce other players to adapt to YOUR playstyle in some way shape or form and some players just dont like that in general.
2) Dont use your DF if you are not familiar with the quest. You will die a lot and disrupt the party more than helping it
3) Openly hint, that you intend to use your DF by equipping it at the start of the quest for other party members to see. No need for a passive aggressive "No Resta" Emote
Other party members
1) Resta to stay alive yourself is always ok but Mates are faster and more reliable in most cases anyway.
2) You should never demand Resta from a FO in the party. If you use Berserk like no tomorrow and die, thats on you. Resta wont save you in those cases anyway. Demanding Resta is just as bad as asking not to be healed with it. Its even worse.
Feel free to refer to this post everytime it comes up in #general again.
