No Resta Grr - DF Users Grr - a neverending debate?

As commonly discussed on the discord, there is not really common ground on this one.

Let me be clear about one thing. The entire "meta" around Dark Flow (DF) is not the problem here. It's one of if not the most powerful weapon in the game that enables really really fast an smooth runs, if wielded by a skilled Hunter. That Hunter surely wants to utilize that weapon as often as possible. And as heated as PUBLIC games can get sometimes, they will catch a Resta every once in a while, disabling the DF.

Wether or not that Resta was intentional creates some frictions every once in a while. Especially new Forces dont really understand why they are "not allowed" to resta, when they, and other struggling party members could benefit from it.

On the other hand we have the seasoned players, that swing their DF as natural as breathing and carrying entire parties by doing it. It took them a lot of effort to do it and kind of shows the skill ceiling of this game. And understandably so, players love that expression of skill.

The real issue lies within interactions when things dont go smoothly. A DF user dies over and over again, needs do be revived, rebuffed, needs to setup again... in those cases its more disruptive to the party, than helpful. An unknowing FO tries to keep the party alive, thinking its the fulfillment of their role but actually disabling a crucial DF swing resulting in something like a baranz obliterating the group by staying alive too long.

Yes, you could theoretically implement something like a command (that could be keybinded easily) to enable/disable any kind of incoming healing, but would that really solve the problem? Id rather suggest some ideas to make public games a better experience for all party members that mostly align with discussions about it on discord.

As the FO
1) Please accept the request of not being healed with Resta
2) Dont feel bad for healing other party members than the ones who requested no Resta, even if it hits the DF user by accident
3) As an expression of your own skill ceiling, try to learn and apply "self resta" https://wiki.pioneer2.net/w/Game_mechanics#Self-Resta

As the DF user
1) Accept, that you unintentionally enforce other players to adapt to YOUR playstyle in some way shape or form and some players just dont like that in general.
2) Dont use your DF if you are not familiar with the quest. You will die a lot and disrupt the party more than helping it
3) Openly hint, that you intend to use your DF by equipping it at the start of the quest for other party members to see. No need for a passive aggressive "No Resta" Emote

Other party members
1) Resta to stay alive yourself is always ok but Mates are faster and more reliable in most cases anyway.
2) You should never demand Resta from a FO in the party. If you use Berserk like no tomorrow and die, thats on you. Resta wont save you in those cases anyway. Demanding Resta is just as bad as asking not to be healed with it. Its even worse.

Feel free to refer to this post everytime it comes up in #general again.

Good point. The problem in DF-based meta basically lies in finding the right synergy with teammates, keeping an eye on their movements, and occasionally reminding them that Charge/Spirit also exist as options lol

Not too long ago I healed myself as a HUmar, but also the DF wielding HUney. They snarked "DON'T HEAL" at me, to which I said I had to heal myself. Their reply was imminent: "DON'T CARE".

I thought we were past this behaviour here. It's good this post addresses it.

tbh, skill issue on both ends. mfers need to stop complaining and just start chillin. (on both ends). Play the game, have fun, get your money (Pd) up.
Love my resta and my DF kings.

If I open a random party I hope for 3 things...

1) A FO Joins
2) A high level RAct or RAcl joins
3) No HU joins (especially Humr)

And if a HU joins I at least hope they are not a DF user (no resta plz/res plz...).
From what i experienced recently in many many MAE4 runs: you are not alone

One can request people on how to behave about it, but at the end of the day people enjoy this game differently enough that its gonna happen regardless.

So long if DF has the requirement and theres an mechanic that can manipulate it, then there will always be conflict.
But atleast it aint no confuse trap. Eh?

Warn-Bait thread but I'll bite.

Skill issue is definitely the tl;dr. But a less direct or encompassing way of saying it is experience issue and an attention issue. Most people turn off their brain while playing because PSO is just that comfortzone game. Not resta'ing requires them to think rather than hit the same button they've hit a thousand times before, and thinking is no bueno when you wanna spaceout. So unless they already have experience with the quests they're playing they're not gonna know what to do situationally which is where conflicts reside. If little timmy and his friend group spam resta, thats what their finger memory is gonna do in random groups. It's also not always as easy as saying "just play in a set group of people" either, especially with older players like me whose friendgroups have all quit games, some died, and some moved on. In the end this is why we have dob, vise and lavis blades. the issue only arises when someone vehemently doesn't want you using DF and spams you out of spite. Which when trolling gets reported we get told to suck it up so  there's no resolution.

This topics kinda dead and beaten, dug up, dusted off then gas poured on it, set on fire, killed, reanimated then buried alive again. Unless we're gonna get a command (which we're not) or the mechanics of DF changed (which they wont), theres no use really dragging the subject anymore because both sides who are still entrenched anymore, which is a tiny minority now, think they're victims.

The game already has a feature to solve this issue, if you're a Hunter who uses DF and don't want to play with a FO-resta, or if you're a FO-resta and don't want to play with a Hunter who uses DF.

very simple

You would still have people complain about other people dying even if this existed, surely? I don't think it is the panacea you believe it is.

True, but then the onus would be fully on the bad DFer who won't stop dying, while the rest of the party can enjoy rest in peace. Also, blacklist.

I still say the issue is overblown, just adapt your gameplay according to what the party is doing. Are you a low level FO who's joined a party with 2 level 200 hucasts with skinned DFs? Consider listening to them. Are you a level 200 hucast who's joined a RBR room with a level 112 fo, 93 ramar, and 134 racaseal? Consider that you might not absolutely NEED to DF everything.

As a HU, is there a FO spamming resta? Go ham with zerk. Or Charge, if you're into that kind of thing. Most things die pretty quick anyway. If you ask for no resta and they stop, great! If you die 10 times because you don't know the quest, don't be surprised if they start resta'ing again. If they make it their goal in life to troll you, blacklist and move on. Don't freak out if someone panic restas because they get crit by that Detonator across the room.

As a FO, do you see a HU with a DF, and do they ask for no resta? Cool, give them a chance. Are they doing a good job killing stuff? Great! Maybe sneak in a small resta without a range increase to top up yourself or a RA friend if the HU is out of range, otherwise keep stacking the gifoie or debuffing and demons'ing, whatever you wanna do to kill things. Is the HU dying every 2 spawns? Consider resta anyway. Is the HU ABSOLUTELY DETERMINED TO DRAIN AND DF, EVEN WHEN THEY JUST DIE? Roll your eyes, possibly blacklist, and move on.

Is either the HU or the FO some jackass who starts swearing at you? Absolutely Blacklist them.

Note: if any cast asks for a pause in resta so that they can retrap on death, pause resta until they die then carry on as normal, whatever that is for your group. Sometimes even a racl will want to die in the middle of a quest, and constant resta can hamper that. Another batch of FT's is often worth watching someone zerk their life away. (If they fail to actually have a scape, have a little giggle at their expense. Consider Alt-K'ing their body, there's no better time than the "rt- oh no..." moment.)

Consider cleaning up your blacklist every so-often too, people learn and grow. Maybe that garbage HU has finally "got gud". Maybe that noob FO has realized they can do more than just resta. Only keep that one asshole who stole a mag that a new player dropped to floor trade on your blacklist permanently.

Nothing short of removing Dark Flow entirely will ever fix this issue, every community with DF has had this exact same discussion and nothing concrete has ever happened as a result.

Just play your 26 year old MMOARPG. It's not that hard.
