Post-200 Grind (Level 250)

Spicy McNoodle just said everything I wanted to say better than I ever could. I actually am one of those people that never got to 200 before and I would feel my achievement to be a little "dilluted" by raising the level cap. Yes, for many of you hitting 200 isn't special anymore, but for some people it still is! :3

The "achievement" system Spicy suggested feels perfect to me.

No.

Because if we were to follow that mantra, we'd have to go back to 1:1 vanilla as I'm sure there have been people who have stopped playing over some of the extras on Ephinea.

I think MOST people would say, "Wow, I can level all the way to 250 now? Cool!" And for those who quit because they think that stat gains can occur post-200 and don't want to stop and check into it, how many would we actually lose? Maybe a couple?

I feel like the contrarian position is really grasping at straws here.

"Level 250s walking around isn't a big deal, get over it" - Tons of people in this thread. But it IS a big deal for a new person who is level 1 and deciding whether to stay on this server or not. Everyone's not gonna have the same vast knowledge of Ephinea as we do. The reward should be based on total exp, and your "true level" should be viewable using a command, and not by modifying the level cap in game. If even one new person quits over it, even though it's "just aesthetic," then it's still a bad change, ya?
This!!!

This "extra" is a little different.

You enter the lobby. You're level 1. You see someone with a differently colored name. You ask "why is their name yellow?" because you haven't done your research on the server (this happens ALL the time). Someone explains. You see a level 223 person. You don't ask about it. You say "fuck this server" and alt+F4.

It's too obnoxious when you don't know what it means. And based on the number of newbies asking dumb questions in the lobby, a lot of people don't do their research, so they're not going to know what it means.

The other "extras" aren't so "in your face" like a level 201+ would be. You have a chance to play the server a bit and get comfortable before they jump out at you. A level 201+ is right in your face as soon as you log in (assuming they're idling in the lobby).

And for those who quit because they think that stat gains can occur post-200 and don't want to stop and check into it, how many would we actually lose? Maybe a couple?

Why WOULD they look into it? In literally every other MMO, level gains mean stat increases. They're gonna make assumptions and then they're gone.

It's going to be more than a couple. Think of all the people who ask "what do name colors mean?" because they haven't done their research. Those same people aren't going to ask about level 201+. They're going to assume it's like every other MMO, then rage quit based on their assumptions because their investment into our server is less than 5 minutes anyway.

A possible solution to all of this is to have an option to enable/disable the display of levels over 200, and have it defaulted to "off," and have the server display a popup menu explaining it the first time you turn it on (the command would only be usable in the lobby in this case). Also maybe a banner in lobby at level 200 (similar to the level 20 and under banner) telling you the command exists, and goes away permanently when you try it out.

(EDIT: is this even possible, or does it require patching to turn it on and off?)

This would 100% solve the problem. Let's move on now.

I like ya Jeff, you but you really get hung up on stuff that isn't a huge worry sometimes, and this is coming from me xD

(You've posted in this thread 31 times - you're not really in a position to tell someone else to chill)

PS: The admin saying it's a non-issue when multiple people agree is IS an issue.... is a bit worrying ya. Since in the end his opinion matters the most.

Most of my posts have been on defensive; not fussing over minutia. -_-; I'm really worried about seeing this amazing thing getting nixed by semi-unfounded fears.

Plus, I need to get my post-count level cap bonuses.

I have a question, will the chars that have accumulated xp past 200 before this is implemented be autolevelled?
I'd personally like to see this happen, to see those players rewarded for grinding for the love of the game when they have already reached 200, rather than have to do it all again.
FTR this won't benefit me much! I doubt TheBaron (my ramar) would even be lvl 202 :p

It's only "minutia" to you. Something small to you might be a big deal to someone else.

Writing off their opinion and telling them to shut up just because you deem it "not a big deal" is not very nice. Just because it is small in your opinion, doesn't mean it actually is. Yours is only one viewpoint.

It's my understanding that it would be extremely difficult to undo the EXP accumulated post-200 without messing things up, so I'm assuming yes. An Admin can correct me if I'm wrong.

It's generally accepted that matters of aesthetic preferences are of lesser importance than practical things. This is supported by Maslow's Hierarchy and the very fact that we must first survive in order to have leisure time. Anyway...

The "meat and potatoes" of this game, or "what drives people to play" is generally going to be more centered around "X Action for Y Reward." Proposing an addition to this system that excites longtime players only to see it lost on aesthetic concerns is upsetting and shortens the life of the game.

Yours is also only one viewpoint, but you act like your viewpoint is what everyone thinks. While Ade is no different, it's hilarious that you think you can stand on higher moral ground.

Honestly at this point I'm going to lock this because it's going round in circles. Chances are the cap won't be broken, as people are split down the middle about it, but it seems like nobody is against the concept of EXP still being useful at 200 in some fashion. Maybe we'll get back to you on that, maybe not.

Thanks everyone for their opinions and viewpoints! I wonder if a Suggestions thread will ever be modest and tame...
