I also vouch for Parallels over VMWare (free ver) - my expectations for playing are pretty low (low details, texture), I just wanted good frame rate & responsive inputs

VMware Fusion free doesn't really exist anymore. I mean, as it once was. Now there is just the Pro version which is now free. I honestly didn't notice any difference playing PSOBB on the Mac with Parallels over VMware. I also didn't have any performance issues outside of the one I patched.
I wasn't running it at any sort of insane resolution or high effects, though. But yeah, it was just fine for playing the game.
Combining VMware Fusion Pro, again which is free, and "Activation Scripts" would let you get playing PSOBB on Ephinea pretty easily at any rate.
The only "solution" I've found is to not use the wineskin app unfortunately. I'm on an M1 Macbook Pro, and running it through VMWare is rock solid without frame drops. Even crowded lobbies and rooms with a lot of mobs are stable.

Hi! Thank you guys so much! I'm so happy finally can play it again after two decades.
I come across this post and sadly the one provided cannot run on my M1 mac (Sequoia). The reason, probably, is that the latest OS doesn't support wineskin anymore cuz wineskin is no longer updated, or, probably changed to its successor Sikarugir.
I got your idea and tried using Sikarugir to wrap and I can finally play successfully. I don't know how to share the .app. tho. But it is a solution...
( I failed few times cuz I should choose the 32-bit wrap something but I didn't)
ps I tried VMware as well. I could install and hardly play with an awful delay and frame loss. Sadly.

Glad to see there's a solution for Mac users on Sequoia. I'm an Intel Mac user currently on Catalina, but a lot of my apps will be losing support soon, and I may need to upgrade to Sequoia. Would hate to lose access to PSO with the update. If there's any chance you could compress and share the Sikarugir wrapped version of the game, us less tech savvy users would appreciate it! Alternatively, a tutorial would be a useful resource too.

Please try at least download Sikarugir yourself.
As for the wrapping and settings I need more time to recall my memory tho.
More time is needed cuz I don't have much time recently for a tutorial.
Just reporting: On a M2 MacBook Air running Sonoma 14.5, I tried the Wineskin wrapper from the original post, the Sikarugir wrapper from the previous messages, and Crossover with no success. Installing Windows 11 via VMWare Fusion Pro ended up being the solution that worked. Running with no slowdown/stuttering etc. and no issues so far. This video shows exactly how to set up VMWare Fusion Pro and install Windows 11 on it (neither of which you have to buy):
Hi, I'm new to this community but not to PSO. I'm having difficulty running the software on my Mac in VMWare. Can i get some advice on what my parameters should be in VMWare, Windows, and the launcher to get the best performance? I'm using an M4 Mac Mini running Tahoe. So far i haven't found any configuration that is truly playable.

Hi this works for me now. I found I didn't download the vmware tools and update my virtual OS; that was why I couldn't make it before. And the game running now has become way smoother and I can use addons! Big thanks to all ya guys luv luv <333
Configuration wise, I use Direct 3D 9 / show mod drop (base and current) / more - low end and I use pixel fog, and I don't use frame skip (set to 0), so it gets "custom". But if anyone has a better setting I'd like to test also.
Sometimes the game crashes when entering a room in the lobby. Disconnexion problem, I think, is more connected to my mobile internet, not sure. But all these flaws don't influence the gaming too much.
