Super strange quest bug (or I'm dumb)

Hey, been playing on the server for about a week or so now, and this is my first post here. I've encountered a weird input/combo bug that I'm not seeing any topics on.

Whenever I try to do any sort of quest (side quests from the counter, or the Government quests the Principal's Office) I've noticed I can't get any of my combos off. At first I thought it was an input latency issue because I've noticed the occasional weird double-input in menus, but the game seems to be running fine. I can get the first of any type of hit (normal, hard, special) off, but I simply can't combo any further. I have absolutely no issues doing this when I'm not on quests, and it's driving me kind of crazy.

Am I missing something super obvious here? What can I do to get my attacks working, as this naturally makes doing anything very difficult.

Not sure if this is related to your issue, but I noticed that, in quests (not sure about outside of quests) if the game receives multiple inputs from the same button rapidly, it tends to interrupt a combo you make with another button. For example, if you have multiple rapid presses of Normal attack, and then attempt to press the Hard attack button, there will be no combo, only the initial Normal attack.

The doubling of menu input you mention could be related to this. I'm not sure why this would occur only in quests but make sure your controller/keyboard is configured to only send one input per press (no turbo mode or other feature that makes multiple inputs per press, for example).

You cant be spamming the attack button, you have to be very deliberate with your button presses.
Higher attack speeds also affect this as well, if you moved recently from having no attack speed units (base attack speed of 100%) to equipping for instance a Heavenly/Battle, which makes this 140%, the timing for your button presses will change because your attacks will go off quicker and the end lag is slightly different as well.
Practice it, you have to be very deliberate with your attack timings.

I went back, cleared out my Joy2key profile I created (which I was only using because the game wasn't recognizing my Xbox Series X triggers) and toggled back and forth from Keyboard control mode, and one or both of those things seemed to do it. Miraculously, the game is now recognizing the analog triggers too.

I am completely baffled why this only manifested when doing quests, but we take it. Thanks for your help!
