Game crash after character creation

Just as the title says. I've tinkered with some settings and have already made sure that...

-Running in 4:3 mode for best results
-Running as Admin
-Running in XP Service Pack 2 Compatibility Mode
-Anti-virus is disabled

This is the error message that Windows 7 is spitting out at me:

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I also tried reinstalling as well as adding exceptions for online.exe and psobb.exe in my Firewall (although I didn't see any instructions saying that it was necessary)

I'm having this exact same problem. I've also allowed everything through antivirus, tried using compatibility options, changing graphics settings, uninstalled and reinstalled, and running in administrator but NOTHING works.
It always crashes right after I'm done creating my character and press enter to confirm it. My crash reports also say ephinea.dll is the fault module.
 
Probably some codec or something installed on your computer that is interfering with Directshow's ability to play the intro video. Without removing whatever codec pack or FFDSHOW or whatever is causing it, you probably can't proceed until some option is added to skip the opening movie.

soda, this is probably that same error that some other user was having some time ago
there's no video after character creation, it's before
it happens without ffdshow, other codec packs or AV
 
I FOUND OUT THE PROBLEM!
Or at least supposedly did. During character creation if I changed my character's proportion for some reason that triggered an immediate crash on confirming it. However editing other aspects of the character without modifying proportion allowed me to start the game. I thought I had tried doing that beforehand but maybe I didn't.
I also instead used the manual install rather than the installer exe.
 
Ok. So actually after attempting to make a 2nd character I still have the crashing problem regardless of customization. At this point I'm actually not sure what the issue is because if I quickly mash through the character creation, name my character a single letter and hit confirm it actually loads the next part, attempts to connect, then crashes. However my character has now been saved so I can normally connect to the server when I restart the game. I'm assuming it has something to do with either sending character data to the server or the connection somehow timing out before I can finish making my character... although that would be weird since I still took some time with my first character and didn't touch the proportion section.
Obviously this is frustrating since the only way I would be able to edit my character's appearance is through a dressing room later. Still a relief I found a way past this crash somewhat for now.
