Nothing Happens

Well.. it is clear.
Your psobb.exe executable is not there, your antivirus probably ate it.
Also you don't have online.exe either which is Ephinea's launcher

Where is online located?
Also, nor online neither option need to be in the DEP exclussion list, you need "psobb" or"psobb.exe" if you have file extensions enabled.

Did you just drag the launcher to the desktop?
It needs to stay in the EphineaPSO folder.
You don't seem to have online.exe OR psobb.exe in the EphineaPSO folder so that's your problem. You may need to install the game again if you can't locate them.

Trying to reinstall now. Sorry guys, I'm not very computer savvy. The launcher appeared on the desktop after the install.

There you have the launcher, but is missing psobb(.exe) ... disable your antivirus or add the folder to the exclusions/exceptions and get the file (psobb.exe) out of its quarantine.

I don't think he knows what an antivirus is.... I mean, that was my original suggestion, so...

And really I don't know how to explain it to him.

Do you use an avast antivirus? If so, you must activate the option (game mode).

And indeed, your antivirus to put a file in quarantine ...

If you would like download and install Teamviewer for windows and then PM me so we can connect. I can do some Remote diagnostics. Most people aren't comfortable with Teamviewer as it is a full remote desktop client. It does include significant protections as such though like randomized connection passwords.

Ok I finally got it to run! Then McAfee ate the psobb.exe and quarantined it. No sooner than I remove it from quarantine than McAfee puts it right back. Any suggestions for a good free Antivirus software that will let me play?

I'm using Windows Defender (buit-in in Win10) and everything is fine.

Avast antivirus is free and great!
Bitdefender is good too

MCAfee is my anti virus too. you must disable "realtime scanning" while playing the game... the antivirus still scans files on the exclusions list " if it has reasonable suspicion" according to MCAfee support... your only other option is to file a "False ARTEMIS!" claim with MCAfee support which they will respond to in 4-6 weeks and blah blah blah.
two options:
1) disable realtime scanning everytime you wish to play;
2) use a non-malware-like antivirus system (I use it because it was free for a year)

Sorry for the bad news. I went rounds with the MCAfee support team on the phone and via e-mail and got no where... one even suggested that I might be deluded about the potential for this game to be one massive virus.

For you tech nerds like me PSOBB.EXE is classified by MCAfee as an ARTEMIS! threat which is a code name for a program that "looks suspicious" but doesn't conform to any known virus type.

Basically just use a better antivirus.

Could just run without an anti-virus, as long as you're not dumb you will never get infected.

Haven't used one for like 3 years, absolutely no issues.
