Character Tier List?

Humar and Hunewearl can use demons, sure they can't put on a bringer's but don't underestimate demon's.

They still have holy ray for 220 range sniping.
A small correction: my references say Holy Ray has 210 range, as does all Rifles except a few odd ones.

So many things to take into consideration... available gear, pve or pvp or even both, playing in a group or soloing... Imo it's almost impossible to calculate EVERY details and be finally able to say what is the definitive best class since they all have their own specializations.

Fomarls are OP for support because of their 2X range for support techs without having to equip Resta Merge etc like other FOs might have to do, especially when the party is scattering in big rooms like the Sub Des room with the huge quicksand pit in the middle. Foneys are often underated too but give them a Foie Merge, a Laconium and Ignition Cloak on Falzy's last phase and they'll beat the crap out of him, even on Ult.

Hucasts and Racasts on the other hand are often overated, don't get me wrong tho, they're OP as f*** if there's a decent tech user around to buff/debuff. They still have some serious flaws on some occasions. Try running solo missions that fails when a NPC dies like Retired Hunter or Warrior's Pride and you'll see what I mean. If you don't already have decent gear on your Cast, expect to spend a lot of mesetas on Star Atomizers to heal them since the NPCs are just dumb as f*** most of the time when it comes to healing during combat. On the other hand, tech users will have no problem at all rushing those missions if you can at least use Resta on them, and even less if it's a Fonewm that can support them well and nuke the s*** out of monsters at the same time.

Like a few people already said on the thread, in the end there's just no such thing as best classes in the game unless you're looking at something very specific for one mission in particular AND also have access to the best gear for that class. Some people won't go as far as a 100% optimization on their class anyways because they find it annoying to carry lots of gear and switch equipment all the time (i.e. staves, cloaks and merges on FOs). An "Official" Tier list would require so much calculation with all the variants that it's near impossible to make one. Be my guest if you want to try tho. :)

Mage optimization seems rather irritating in this game, at least compared to certain others. I'd want to be able to mash one button and have it equip the ideal wand, merge, etc. for casting Foie and then cast Foie. Even better would be something like Windower for FFXI, where you can tell it "Whenever I cast $SPELL, equip this stuff, then switch back to my default equips after the cast" (e.g. a better damage reduction or resistance shield). As it is, I think the easiest way to even change gear is with the quick menu, and then you still have to cast, if the thing hasn't died already while you were doing that because someone filled it with lasers.

That, and the limited inventory, of course. But if you have all that gear, you probably don't need to pick up much.

If I'm missing some easier way, please tell me! I want to try FOmarl, and not suck at it.

"Not sucking" is being able to switch between weapons and/ or merges without even thinking about it. I've never been able to do that and it makes me cry every night because I suck so bad!!! (Just kiddding)

I'm fine with being a casual that can't play efficiently. Most of the time I just use From the Depths on my Fonewm and tank everything. (I do use gifoie merge on lizards tho, on spawn 4,5,and 6 in ma4.)

Edit: not sucking.. is also having alllll these quests memorized so you know what weapons you need on each spawn, in addition to swapping weapons without wasting time!! Jeez..

Weapon switching is at least a million times easier than armor switching, shield switching is pretty easy as well in the long run. Weapons have their own quick menu after all, on fomar my menu is:
-fast gun (master raven or charge vulcan)
-group control beat stick (excal/astro belt, or if I find something better then that one)
-magic booster (mpiece, pwand/dark bridge when I get one cause 50% tp cast is too good to pass up)
-specialty weapon (cards like guardianna/gal wind, single target beat stick like girasole, slicers)
-glide divine (it gets its own category to itself, that is how useful this is)
-status stuff (bringer's rifle, arrest gun/holy ray, hell gun, pretty much only section where I'll carry more than 1 type with me)

Still as it is on here it may not always be needed to worry about shield switching. Its not like Schthack where having Gi Merge + M piece on reduces the number of gifoie needed to kill lizards by 4-5 or so vs the 2 from Mpiece alone. Gifoie merge only buffs Gifoie by 30% after all, not 80% like Gi merge does on scht. A fomar using gifoie needs 7/8 casts when holding mpiece to kill a lizard, gifoie merge only buffs that to 6/7. Gifoie isn't really used to murder as much as it is to crowd control though.

Fomarl has the best slicer animation and shot animation in the game. SoF doesn't even really need hit with her sns cause of it, Rambling May is handgun speed.

I think people underestimate just how strong HUcast is. He doesn't need buffs and Freeze Traps are literally the most overpowered thing in the game.

Indeed they are, even without support. And I agree that Freeze/Confuse traps are simply awesome in the hand of experienced players (with very rare exceptions for some monsters like ZUs). But that doesn't make them the best class all the time on any chosen quest/hunt etc, just the best one overall, that's what I meant. I saw a lot of people thinking that HUcasts are simply better than anything else to do everything but they often got disapointed too because they still had a hard time for some of the specific quests I talked about. ;)

Dunno if any other non-FO class really needs to carry/equip that much gear on them as FOs do for a near perfect optimisation but I guess not many will have to do that. But it's not really that bad in most cases. Like Nyte and Rune said, switching weapons is fast and easy to do between waves or boss phases, same goes for merges. Switching during combat can cause you to waste time and potential kills very often, that's why I don't do it most of the time unless I play solo. Switching armor is a pain because of the equipped units so it's probably best to do it only before/after boss fights or simply before starting the quest if you know already what should be the most useful. It's true that it takes good knowledge of what monsters you'll encounter etc... can be a pain indeed unless you're a PSO-walkthrough on legs. :p

Well in all fairness none of the casts have reproductive parts...they are robots. Built for battle, not love. They have no feelings and can't be trusted. I'm pretty sure it makes em feel pretty sad that they don't have emotions. :D

Please recheck the lower lap section on a Racast. Why build a codpiece if there is nothing to protect?

My personal tier list of characters I readily play
Racast
Fomarl
Ramarl
Hunewearl

Switching weapon is pretty easy with the quick menu. With some practice you'll be able to cast every tech with the right weapon equipped, unless you carry too many weapons. Switching merges is more advanced, you could perhaps practice it and do well -- I'm not sure -- but I think the way to do it is to memorize the spawns and plan ahead and switch before they spawn. For armor it's not very worthwhile to switch and their boosts are minimal, just wear the most useful one for the quest. Overall it's pretty fine to focus on weapon switching mainly, and switch merges minimally.

One small trick: if your tech has a delay between casting and hitting, you can equip the weapon after you cast the tech, and they'll still get the boost. On FOnewm/FOmar it's particular useful as you can stack Gifoie barehand before spawn since they cast faster barehand, and when the spawn is about to happen, equip the Magical Piece and all the previously stacked gifoie will get the boost. I think it's also possible to cast Grants first and pull up quick menu to select Mercurious Rod, it will get equipped in the first time frame possible, just in time to boost the casted Grants.

Yeah it's possible get used to switching merges without to much problem with a bit of practice. An additional quick menu for shields would be so useful tho, wish that could be implemented in the game. Best trick I know of (for both wep/merge switch) is to use macros (requires a 3rd party program like Logitech Gaming Software etc) but in order to do that you must make sure that your weps/merges are always in the same inventory slots otherwise the macro will not select what you wanted in some cases. Can also be done for armors and units but it won't completely negate the time it takes to do it manually, it'll only make it a bit faster and provide more comfort since all will be done with a single button press. :)

Yup, last time I tried it worked well with Gifoie and Grants. Foie & Barta travel very fast at lvl 30 tho so it's almost impossible to do unless the target is really far away and other techs are almost "instant hit" with a VERY small time window between cast/hit unfortunatly.

HUcast is the best in the game hands down.
The only reason to keep FO around is for no PB buffs, and Gifoie.
Everything else is irrelevant.

It 's the closest we get to the quick menu for weps indeed but slightly less efficient. And I didn't find a way to use the menu with a controller without creating a macro for F2 on one of the buttons.
