Unfair Frustration!

Why is it that you CANNOT earn what you want in this game? Not take! Not ask! EARN! For the past two years, all I wanted to obtain is 3 Magic Rock "Heart Keys" to make a Sweetheart and a Safety Heart. Basically, I want the Sweetheart combo pack! But I have to earn 150 Photon Drops, a Spirit Garment and a Invisible Guard. In the beginning, my mind set is "No problem. I'm up to the challenge!". But In my current two years of grinding gameplay, this game's terrible drop system won't let me earn more than 30 or 20 Photon Drops. Here I am helping other players get their Heaven Punishers, Psycho Wands and any other ridiculous hard to get items that I don't care about but I CANNOT EARN 150 Photon Drops or Gold Badges?! 90% of all the rares I have, I had to buy. Which feels humiliating in a video game to me. You'd think a small community would be more lenient with a drop system from a dead game on it's anniversary month of all times. But no! They need a "High Society and Low Born Filth" system. And because none of my character's are not the "Top Tier Fan Favorites" like HUcast, RAcast or FOnewm, I'll only get junk and xp! It's biased crap like this why SEGA only makes Sonic and Yakuza games because those games don't have a unfair and divisive reward mechanics!

I know games that rely on luck are frustrating sometimes...wont tell you not to be, but my advice is to just stick with it and you should be able to get 150pd without much trouble, especially right now, during the anniversary event.

run Maximum Attack E: (MAE) quests, collect PDs, collect badges, sell Meseta for PDs if you have to, sell materials if you have to (use Discord to trade if you aren't). Even assuming you get no other drops beside those things, if you grind fairly hard until the end of the event you should get close to 150 in value.

Also, If you are saying you are pretty unlucky and don't want to count on one super rare, I'd suggest grinding something that drops V101, Limiter, v502, etc. They are not incredibly rare and have decent value. If you target those items you should be able to get one unless you are unlucky or playing very casually.

I'll do some runs with you as well if you'd like...let me know. Good luck!!

Uh, we don't have this. The guys with thousands of PDs and all the gear you can dream of have just been playing here forever.

I want to add that these people are playing here forever and usually also very actively for long periods of time. Adding to that they also end up running quests more efficiently which in turn ends up giving them more items.

This is a grindy game. Unless you are one of the lucky people that get a huge drop with minimum amount of effort, you will have to spend a significant amount of time to get something big. It's just how the game is. If this doesn't appeal to you, you need to either lower your expectations and make do with easier to get gear or look for something else to spend your time with.

Spekkio, I'm sorry. I use to play this back on the Dreamcast and GameCube and at the time, I didn't know most of these rares existed outside the opening demo videos of those versions. I love the feeling of being able to obtain something all on your own. It's a sensational feeling for me! It just nerve-wracking grinding through a drop system and failing to get the item you what! But you're right about one thing though. I'm not giving up! I love PSO! I've played the portable Universe and Phantasy Star Zero in the late 2000s! I just needed to cool off and take a break. I appreciate your words of encouragement. They are pretty rare in this day of age. As for your suggestions, I have those three items in spades within the first year. I'd be lying if I said they where easy to get.

You are complaining from a position of comfort, you don't know what it's like to play needing this so-called luck you're talking about and still having to be in the right place at the right time, since it wasn't just about having the luck of an item dropping, you also had to grab it before the others in the room.

24 YEARS of PSOing.... NEVER tripped over an SJS or P.Wand....Halped a Couple of ppl get THEIR dream items! (That in itself made mew Happy~!).

OH! Mew IS guilty of tripping over a Red ring her First WEEK of Ephinea turning 80! Was kidnapped to support a RR hunt in DZLE-kun's room....she offered it to him and took one look at the stats and was like 'meh, You keep it!' XD!

I believe the developers said in an interview that the really rare drops were meant to be like a treat for lucky people. Like, you'd be playing online and see someone with a strange, powerful weapon like a Tsumikiri or a Psycho Wand and wonder what they were or how they got them. Definitely an experimental way of doing things, since it's a game from the early 2000s.

So from my understanding they were never meant to be grinded for, they were just supposed to happen, but only for a lucky few. And it makes sense, a lot of those ultra rares are strong, but they aren't really necessary to mow through mobs to destroy bosses.

I think that mystique of the super rare items, combined with the abysmal drop rates, is what makes them so desirable. Like, a gun that scales with MST that's Ranger only, a sword that consumes your entire PB gauge for a big energy attack, and a rod that kills you to make Ra-techs 10% stronger (compared to the basic elemental wands) all sound pretty trashy on paper, but when you gate them behind a 1 in 200,000 drop rate they suddenly seem so much more powerful! It's just part of PSO's charm.

I do agree the drop mechanics can be divisive. If a person in your regular group finds an amazing item that you probably won't ever find, they get to silently lord that over you for all of eternity. It is a bummer, but you just have to deal with it. For those who do get super lucky, it's best not to rub it in. As much as we joke about it, luck really is not a skill.

This may not be the right game for you if it upsets you that much. I hope you find peace :(

I wonder if you're the same guy in my MAE forest game that would not stop complaining about "rich get richer" and saying "F this game" every 10 seconds. You seem like you're genuinely frustrated, so I'll take your complaint seriously and rebuttle with this:

You are already playing the game in its easiest format and with some of the easiest drops the franchise has ever had. If you genuinely feel like the game is too rigged for you, you should probably just go play something else.
