xbox 360 controller suddenly having issues after update

Normally i can used my wired xbox 360 controller without any issue at all. few weeks ago i logged into psobb and played for a tiny bit and got off. was planning to play it today and realized there was an update. but now it doesn't even detect my controller anymore :C

help?
