online.exe fails to launch

Hi everyone,

I was able to install Ephinea on my Steam Machine earlier, and having some fun with it I wanted to also install it on my windows PC, but I'm having some trouble.

I'm on specifically Windows 10, version 22H2.

Things that do work:
PsoBB.exe: I can login and do everything exactly as I expect to from my experience on my other computer. The only thing that doesn't work is that connecting to a server fails as I get the "client needs to be updated" message.
online_compat.exe: This works but doesn't seem to do anything other than let me start PsoBB.exe and change the more limited set of options.

Things that don't work:
online.exe: spinny circle briefly appears then disappears.
online_win7.exe: same thing
options.exe: same thing, though again it seems to work from online_compat.exe, if I understand correctly.

Things I've tried:
Basically everything on the Technical FAQ and similar posts I've seen on the forums.

I have the latest version of VC_redist. To my understanding this should include the older version(s) that the game(?)/launcher(?) needs.
I have checked my quarantine section under windows and see nothing there.
I have made a DEP exclusion as advised.
I have checked my registry keys and that all looks in good order.
I have tried running both online.exe and online_win7.exe under Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows XP compatibility modes.

I would be very appreciated if anybody has any other ideas for things I can try. I've tried running the exe via cmd to maybe get some logging but I've had no success there, I still just get a spinny circle and no messages. The log folder under EphineaPSO is similarly empty.

Outdated client version when trying to login means ephinea.dll is outdated. This DLL is updated by the launcher, online.exe. You need to figure out why it's not working.

The launcher is built targeting .Net 4.6.2. Versions of .Net frameworks are generally backwards compatible, so installing that version or a more modern one would likely fix it. It seems like we're not building the launcher with the target framework embedded into the executable metadata, which might be why there isn't a useful error message.

So I would try installing a .net framework runtime from Microsoft for 4.6.2 or greater first.

You could also look inside windows Event Viewer > Windows Logs (on the left) > Application after you try to launch it. You may see an event for online.exe that might provide some info on why it failed to launch.

After going down the .NET framework hole a bit, and checking the Event Viewer... I think my RAM might have a fault of some kind. I've had some weird one off things occur before that made me suspect it, but this might be the nail in that coffin. I'll do all the memory testing things and see if elucidates anything. Thanks for the help!
