I installed PSOBB on a new Windows11 machine and have been having occasional freezes where the whole computer locks up while playing. It happens maybe every 2 or 3 hours of play and doesn't leave anything suspicious in the Event Viewer. DEP is on for essential windows programs and services only, and I have excluded the EphineaPSO folder from Virus & threat protection.

But today for the first time I got a crash to desktop, with an error in the Event Viewer, so I thought I'd report it here:

Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00271bb7
Faulting process id: 0x3E3C
Faulting application start time: 0x1DCE34E2C51001E
Faulting application path: psobb.exe
Faulting module path: psobb.exe

Any advice?

That crash is from returning to lobby when the game was processing the lobby_billboard.prc file located in the data folder. We don't use this file so you could just rename it to anything else to workaround the issue. I've been meaning to disable that code and also investigate if it's a bug in the vanilla client or with that file, though I think that file is the vanilla one because it's so old.

The game shouldn't freeze your whole computer. The game runs as a user process so it just can't do that.

Thanks! I will try renaming the file if this happens again.

Thanks for confirming that, it's what I suspected. Possibly I have a hardware or a driver problem.
