Help with performance drop

My laptop has a gtx 1050 ti, an I7 processor, and 16 gb of installed ram. I'm at a loss as to why only video games run like a slide show. I tried updating graphics driver 2 months ago when i noticed but i was also at a hotel so the download may have never finished. Before i go and do that could there be any other causes? I do have anti virus and actively turn off backround programs not in use bc they are annoying

I never owned any laptop but I think you have to select the preferred GPU to use for games (As it probably have 2 inside, for the low power usage mode).
