Recommended PC controller?

Hey there. So I'm FAR from new to this game, I've been playing since the Dreamcast days in 2001, but I'll get right to the point.

I'm trying to use a controller for this game. I've tried using a DualShock 4 and the game keeps spamming "up" on the d-pad making it impossible to use. Normally it works "okay" on most games when plugged in but feels a bit laggy at times.

I've tried using a Switch Pro (1) controller. It works fine enough, in wireless mode, but often disconnects and is a little buggy/unreliable. What would you recommend, controller-wise, for this game, and other PC games? Cause using other console controllers like this is kind of hit or miss for me and I think I'd benefit from a dedicated PC controller. Bonus points if I can pick it up off Amazon.

Thanks~

Before you shop around, try launching the game through Steam. Steam Input fixes (most) issues with buttons being randomly held and whatnot.

Oh word? I'll try that.

Edit: That fixed it, for the PS4 controller, but I'd still like to shop around for a "dedicated" PC controller cause the PS4 controller, wired, on PC, still feels a little laggy sometimes, so still looking for recommendations. This is good for now though.

I am a big believer in the Switch [1] Pro Controller, I have easily 1000+ hours of PC gaming alone on it. Through Bluetooth I too found it a bit buggy and unreliable, BUT though this little dongle called the MAYFLASH Magic NS it has worked perfectly and has the added benefit of switching betweeen Nintendo or Xbox button layout by holding a button combination. Best 20 usd I have ever spent on gaming considering how often it gets used and how reliable it has been.

I just got a 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless and I've been loving it so far. The sticks feel great, the d-pad is clicky not mushy like my old Xbox 360 elite controller was, and the tactile triggers are great to use as buttons. It was finicky to setup but having 4 extra buttons to bind stuff to has been amazing. (The square and star buttons are unfortunately for controller settings only) If you decide to get it feel free to message me and I can walk you through setting it up cause it's not well explained anywhere.

Really it's the best controller you can probably get on PC and the price is fair, I've been using the first generation now for nearly two years and the sticks are still behaving exactly as they should unlike the first party controllers I've used beforehand which would fail around or just after a year of use which is gross when you're paying $70+ for a controller.
