Why does the music skip on the main title screen?

This isnt like a game breaking bug or anything, but the title screen where you login and get into the game tends to cut in and out, it can be very jarring. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

It only happens on the title screen weirdly enough, all the other music in the game is fine.

There's no way to fix it (so far)

After launching the game for the first time, if you scroll through the menus this will happen. After you enter the character select screen this won't happen again until you relaunch.

iirc it's a bug related to dsound thats observed on every client of BB. It might potentially be how dsound is emulated on modern machines, but it could also just have been a native issue with the way dsound is utilized by the client.

I wouldn't say there's no way to fix it, considering both of my Ephinea's and Destiny's PSOBB clients don't skip on the title screen anymore, even on first boot up. Unfortunately, I cannot remember what I did to fix the title screen music skipping issue. Though one thing I can always recommend to people is to go into their sound properties and turning on Exclusive Mode (on W10: right-click the volume icon in task bar, click Sound, click Playback tab, choose the source of your sound, then click properties, go to Advanced tab, then check both boxes under Exclusive Mode).

Doing this will fix a lot of problems for some older games that are not W10 native. I don't know if this will fix PSOBB on your PC, but it's still worth doing because it does fix a lot of sound issues with W10, in general, and I haven't come across any issues over the years in my experiences of leaving Exclusive Mode turned on.

I don't know if this will fix PSOBB
It certainly doesn't, however I just toyed around with sample rate of the playback device and lowering it from any option down to 44.1khz seemingly fixes it even after it's started. There's likely a way to make it so any device above 44.1khz can work with some modifications to the client, which is still something that needs a fix.

Doesn't work on my ancient sound card, but does seem to work on my motherboard's onboard audio. I'll take another look at PSO's use of dsound to see what's going on.
