Not putting needles on here cause they would win and I want options that are for all 12 classes not just Rangers.

The various guns:
+longest attack range (can snipe some foes w/o response from them with your rifles of course).
+Fastest overall attack speed and SNS is possible from long range.
+balanced, effective cheap option overall costing nothing yet still quite useful.
-Only hits a single target.
-Hucast and Hucaseal don't have a rifle option, Holy Ray is a bitch to put on for Humar/Hunewearl as well.
-Holy Ray is easy to hunt but you have nothing else really you'd want to hunt for as you gun for it besides 1 or 2 spots.

S-rank J-cutter/slicer:
+hits up to 4 targets, sns is super easy to time with this weapon cause its a slicer.
+due to sns with it you usually will chances are have your target(s) paralysis'd overall a bit faster with this than with a gun or kunai when lady luck works with you.
-Shortest range of the options, pretty much required to have the space to sns as well due to base ata.
-Can paralysis 4 targets but that requires you to fine the time to line up your shots still.
-Cost at least 50 pds to make.

Kunai:
+shot range, around handgun speed for 1st two shots. Hits flying targets as well due to being a card.
+3rd hit if up close will chances are paralysis your single target even if you are a fleshy. Still you can para 3 foes sometimes as well. Granted its more of a single target.
-shorter range still than a general handgun, and you can't sns with it (though the idea is to go for the 3rd hit anyway).
-overall ata stats are lower than a rifle and raygun. Holy Ray alone has 70 ata at 0 hit which is more than those 30 hit xmas Kunai that were being gifted to everyone.
-only 1 thing drops it from 2 ids. Those two spots are from rare zu (though pink and oran aren't that bad of id to hunt ep4 with)

Having a good Kunai is the best IMO.

I bought 40 of the 30hit Xmas Kunai's and I still haven't ever used one

You can SN though, can't you?
The "shorter than handgun range" led me to never use one, but i'm sure it's effective
I'm just baaaaaad tbh

Well the only thing I'm trying to para with these weapons in general most of the time are big old dorphan and scary ass girtablulu. Every other foe I'll either spam my flash freeze option on em, my stun locking bolts, or on some special times like when I'm also solo confuse 1 or 2 of em in a group with rb and watch those 1 or 2 turn on their allies for 8 seconds while I run away forming a battle plan cause I <3 my shiny rainbow making weapon. Or something like that

Either way both of these big creatures have a habit of trying to get close to you in some way to try and mess your face up which makes Kunai and its face nuke all the more pleasing in theory for stunning a foe. Cause these foes are just letting themselves get line up for the card face nuke anyway without you having to do anything yourself to line em up for it. That is the funny thing about PSO, only a few foes are trying to avoid truly getting close to you.

Anyway, fleshy characters in general have to deal with only getting v501/2 to boost their arrest. So factoring in a v5 unit fleshies have a 72% para rate on hit with dorphan (32 esp) and 58% para rate on hit for girtablulu (41 esp). w/o v5s we have 48% on dorphon and 39% on girtas.
Girtas in general have far lower evp so at least they are easier to tag most of the time to make up for their having more esp.

Now casts don't have this issue of course. With v5s on they have 100% affect rates to work with on these two targets as long as the attack hits (78% dorphon and 69% girtas without v5s though). You might as well work with a gun or s-rank when partying as a cast cause they overall actually do their job with just v5s on and only just having to plain old hit the target. Its easy in these cases to chose guns because they are the most accurate choice of the 3 options and simple and easy to use and of course slicers are slicers so yeah. However with things that actually have feelings (8 of the game's classes) and aren't just husks of metal and wire (the other 4) I feel its a different story on which one is best for them.

With max ata (no rr though) and a xmas kunai you have around a 32% chance to hit with Fomar's paralysis chance on a dorphan (21% w/o v5). The reason for it only being 32% of course is because Fomar is either a blind old man or a hyper active kid with very little discipline when it comes to actually taking the time to hit shit. Fomar max ata and a xmas kunai only lets his s3 have a 45% chance at hitting a dorphon. Now keep in mind that only 72% of those 45% hit chances will actually use your special and you are left with a pretty low 32% accuracy chance per kunai blade. A Holy ray with 30hit at least has a 56% chance per magic spear (37% w/o v5). Now 44% is the chance with rr on as well as v5 (29% w/o v5). Holy ray's is pretty much the full 72% chance cause s3 pretty much stops missing dorphon at 283 ata (well its a 95% chance to hit but still whatever).

If these numbers were the only detail than I'd feel that it would be no question why you should just use holy ray as a Fomar. However again Kunai being a card gets to have a face nuke on the 3rd hit. Timed right and you can easily face nuke a dorphon on entry or before it can charge. Your odds with at least 1 of those 3 hitting home is actually a around a 68% or 82% with rr. Holy Ray's 56% or 72% on the same dorphon isn't as effective if you are face nuking foes with kunai. In fact as long as at least 2 of those face cards hit you'll actually have around the same success with kunai that you'd have with a shot of holy ray. Kunai as well being a card will hit dorphon if it starts to charge as well unlike holy ray due to cards having launcher properties. So there is another thing not to worry about at least.

Truth be told the face nuke alone pretty much lets you avoid using v5s for paralysis in ep4 if you just get a good enough kunai hit wise and only go for the face nuke if you want for some reason. Even the 30 hit ones are enough to stun girtas w/o rr or a v5s on most of the time. Fomar using v5 but no rr has a 42% chance to stun a girta per hit. Fonewn alone has a 34% chance to stun with just max ata and not using v5 to compare. Your worse chances I was talking about of a 21% success rate on a max ata but no v5 Fomar will still paralysis a dorphon 50% of the time using all 3 parts of the face nuke.

100% hit s3s gets us a 85% chance to para dorphon and a 77% chance to para girta with our face nuke (97% and 92% with a v5 on though).

To make a long post short those xmas kunai were awesome drops and if you use a gun as a fleshy still even with having a xmas kunai no matter what class you are you are making your life a lot harder than it has to be when you have to paralysis a single target.

I mean I can understand wanting to use arrest s-rank j-cutter still as a fleshy just to try and hit some foes next to dorphon or girtas I guess...maybe...

A 0 hit kunai, v501, and only 163 ata Fomar still has a 36% chance to paralysis a dorphon with s3's face nuke.
