Weird sound bug

Anyone ever experience the game randomly losing specific sound effects? Usually it seems to be "location based" (for lack of a better way of describing it) sounds, ie monsters piping in. The music is fine, most sfx are fine, though occasionally I lose something else.

I updated Windows and my GPU drivers recently and it started about then, so I suspect one of those is the root cause (and so far PSO's the only thing I've noticed doing it), but I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced it and found a fix.

Thanks

I haven't found a fix, but I believe I might be experiencing the same issue.

Since telepipes make noise pretty much constantly, I used one to play around with. I believe I've noticed the "location based" nature of it.

From the camera's perspective: sound works just fine anywhere beyond my character, but once something is of equal distance of my character from the camera, the sound gets extremely quiet.
Anything that's closer to the camera than my character (or behind the camera) is completely silent.

Five years later and I'm experiencing the same issue on my end.

One thing I noticed is that this only happens when I use my speakers; Bluetooth earbuds or a USB headset play sounds just fine.

I have also tried messing with the speaker configuration by removing any added effects like Spatial sound and no luck.

For all sound problems, it's usually either to do with an effect you've got turned on in Windows or your sound output being set to 5.1 or 7.1 or something PSO doesn't like working with in your configuration.

In almost all cases, turning off all advanced sound effects and setting Windows to output in strictly "Stereo, 16 or 24bit, and 48khz" usually fixes this. Probably fine with 44.1khz as well.
