Server maintenance has concluded and with it our Easter event.

That said, we have made a couple of changes to the game with this maintenance.

The following changes have been made to Ephinea:

- Weapon special generation for dropped items has been fixed to be correct to the original game. (The "min rank" value in the PT data was actually confirmed to be a maximum rank value and we've been using it wrong this whole time. This has been corrected.)

- Prevented HP & TP restore units from dropping in Challenge mode.

- Prevented possibility of too many duplicates of same weapon/type appearing in weapon shop.

- Hunters Boost Road has been removed in favor of a weekly boosted quest system. A random quest from each episode will be boosted every week, with quests re-rolled Sunday at 0:00 UTC. Quests that are picked to be boosted will have their drop rate boosted by 19%, rare item rate boosted by 19%, and experience boosted by 19%. All boosts can be increased an additional 2% for every additional player over 1 to a maximum of 25%.

- Galatine's power is no longer affected by beat time and will always perform at its strongest.

- With the retiring of the Auldrant ship, we've added another block to both Fodra and Lumireis.

- Fixed problem with Episode 4's Lilith NPC speaking English in the Japanese language setting. (Episode I's Lilith already spoke 日本語.)

... That's all, folks!

サーバメンテナンスが完了しました。併せてイースターイベントも終了となります。

今回のメンテナンスでは、ゲームにいくつかの変更を加えています。

Ephinea

Regarding the weapon special tier changes:

Sadly, I tested this out on PSO GC; Soda and the team are correct. I hunted down several ??? common weapons on Ultimate Ruins. The first item I found I was able to tekk up to the max attribute (Geist), but the second item I found was a ??? Calibur that had the Draw special and would not tekk above "Drain" after 50+ attempts. It really has been wrong this entire time ;-;

This was tested on actual hardware (not emulation), on a 100% legit PSO GC save file that had never used hacks or dupes.

I could have sworn it was the way Ephinea had always done it, but memories fade with time.

Always an HUGE thank u all for provide us the best pso experience ever made.

-weapon special fix:
big nerf but original game change, i like it

-galatine buff:
was a very signature mechanic and also a cool and nostalgic refer to the internet time try/fail. I'm not and probably never will be a galatine user, i refrain.

-hbr change:
i feel like this doesn't reward enough playing together or in a full party.
im at most a pub player; host a game or just waiting for the 4h (good hunt, lvl200 in it) can take around 5-20 mins to fulfill.
with new mechanic 4/4 weekly benefit are very little compared to just solo quest
I just hosted a 4/4 one, then started a 3/4, then just back to solo unsealing my lames
multiplayer should be encouraged. a desk without games rdy to join i think is unhealty for the server.
(this is also an hasty feed)

cheers!

At the same time we don't really want the Ragol Boost Road to feel like you need to have a full party to enjoy its benefits. Encouraging multiplayer is good, but there's a fine line between encouragement and it feeling like a requirement, even if you can argue it's "just boosts, no penalties".

Multiplayer already has the advantage of faster games and socialisation, but if people prefer to solo, or even just play with 1 or 2 friends instead of 3, that's their own prerogative and they shouldn't feel majorly disadvantaged because of that.

Whatever the case is though, we're definitely not planning to go back a 4P game being 4 times as strong as a solo game.

sadly not surprise by update
no one expect good decisions anymore at this point

special point on the part of: nerf of weapon special to be more like original on onse side
and remove galatine original mechanic... for reasonnnssss xD

yes, thank you for keeping the server alive
but most of the updates feel like bad taste in the mouth all the time
we see them approching with fear, asking ourself what will be fucked up this time
we are not haters, we love stuff, we love pso, but your decisions are.. bad
and of course you will not hear the point of all the people who left the server because of those little changes removing the fun in the game bit by bit

well... that sucks

this is pretty dope, but what about the events? will there be some sort of wacky wild thing that happens? maybe bring an hbr in for that? who knows. lets see

We won't be doing anything special with the events that come up most likely - HBR certainly won't be coming back for them, and the RBR will be running as normal through events.

From this point on, the Boost Road is completely detached from any event.

I did notice that lately, MOST of the boosts during events came from grinding that event's respective HBR. When asked, Soda did say the following (to hopefully add some context to what Matt said):

nobody's making you play here, other servers exist still afaik

you're also welcome to start your own server with the legacy software

It is great to see a buff for Galatine. Its ATP was the highest in the game and its incredibly RTA viable. Unfortunately due to its prior mechanic that meant if anyone wanted to do RTA using it in the USA they would have to do so at about 4 am, aka the worst possible time lol.

The new “RBR” system is essentially perfect. It rewards multiplayer play a good amount without requiring an insane timesink to get there, while also not punishing single players. I believe it just selects from ALL quests randomly correct? No more “purposefully inefficient quests that are lesser played”. It changing every week means 4x the variety of play or players can easily wait a week if there are bad series’.

I hope weapon buffs are still on the table in some regard. Namely i want to mention the “Rare items below a certain HEX ID having reduced specials”. Im pretty certain this was an oversight/glitch by SEGA. If all rares could become unreduced it would add about 13(?) new technically viable weapons and would benefit the economy by adding more tradeable loot. It doesnt really make sense that we cant use like half of the weapon roster due to a glitch/oversight.

- Pretty satisfied with the new change to HBR now being RBR. Able to solo at my leisure. Have boost with no grind (including big RDR which you could only get at 4x MAX party), and DAR may be less but the boost between that + DAR week is more than enough for 90% of enemies already. So no stress or worry about myself or others leeching. A week-long setup so no burnout. I much prefer this system, doesn't feel like a Nerf at all. Better for inactive and active people alike IMO.

- Galatine Freedom is amazing, stupid beat system is finally being looked at; you guys rock. Would love to see DP Freedom!

- Specials being correct while it makes things rarer is certainly awesome, I mean, closer to the original. And just makes certain specials have more value.

- No more ugly HP/TP units in cmode, yes, give me more ATA/ATP Units

- Best number Block 3, :saikou:

It doesn't, check the wiki page. The Ragol Boost Road is still designed to boost primarily quests that are lesser played. Stuff that people play already have no right gaining extra bonuses, because what happens is people would just wait for those to get picked, like what happened with Hunters Boost Road many times.

This is absolutely not on the table. We are not changing things like this which would have fundamental changes to the game.

Bold move to change one thing that nerfs the game in order to keep it in line with the original version, while also changing the way a sort of 'joke' weapon works from the original to make it viable.
Not complaining because I always liked the way Galatine looks, good to see it be sort of viable. Does it still change color to reflect the time of day?

Galatine wasn't really changed to make it "better" or "viable." It's not any stronger of a weapon than it was at its previous max ATP hours – it's just always at the same ATP now, so people who don't live in eastern Asia or Oceania can actually use the thing now. From a balancing/vanilla standpoint, it's the same weapon, you just don't have to log on at a certain time of day to use it.

Also, yes, it still changes color.
