Is there any guides for those looking to learn skinning?

Maybe I'm not looking in the right places but I can't find jack on learning how to skin. I'm looking to make my own area skins, monster skins, weapon skins, and character skins if those are all possible to accomplish. Thanks in advance for anybody who can help out in any way
