I love this game but I never get into ult without getting slaughtered. I don't want people to carry (sweet as you all are) or gear me, but I just don't know what i'm doing wrong. Mag is usually 45 dex and rest in pow and using weapons appropriate for a lvl 80 (yellow tier or shit like Varista, Visk, Vise, Dragon slayer) and its not enough in dps or defense. I've always been extremely casual but I can trap shoot and know to 2 hit as a hunter so I don't think its my skill but my gear. What is a decent way to go at this game as a solo hunter or ranger? (I tend to play humans bc I like the look of em)

On HUmar try to get Diska of braveman/sacrificial diska, sac raygun, sac vulcans, some form of aoe melee (Excalibur, Red Sword, Yunchang), S-Reds blade (but you'll be relying on 21 SD from your mag a lot of the time)
On HUnewearl all of the above but you can use Last Swan instead of sac raygun, and you don't need S-reds

Smartlink is vital for all HUs and FOs, be sure you buy or hunt one of those. Charge weapons can be farmed from the weapon shop or bought for 1PD each.

Also, maybe look to get a high atp single target weapon like a 0'd Jizai or Asuka (which scales better than vulcans when you have low shifta/low ATP of a level 80 HU)

Investing in power materials is always a good idea early on. Since you're mostly playing solo, you can make a good amount of PDs to fund your gearing from PW3 box runs, even at level 80.

Two quests in episode 4 (one person mode), Warrior's Pride and Pioneer Spirit, have two NPCs that fight with you. I found these quests really helpful when starting ult solo on my first character.

I just discovered it thanks to your pointer....and wow. Even tho I didn't get any PD yet (maybe because I'm still playing VH) I got a lot of great weapons (Hell Laser 30 Hit, Demon Raygun 40 Hit, Charge Vulcan 45 Hit ) and it's raining mesetas.
Thanks again for this great input, will definitey help me start end game.

I owe you a PD when i find one this info is insanely useful thank you

anime didn't say it but you probably won't kick ass at level 80 regardless.
Haven't seen em in a long time tho :( I think they removed charged wpns from the shop.
90% sure the weapon and armor shop lists are related to your level. Also, if you don't pipe the shops, they are pretty easy to miss.

Try to get into the habit of popping up your mini menu or the chat menu whenever you’re running by enemies — your character won’t flinch or slow down and it helps increase your reaction time.

I think if you run nothing offensive on your secondary action bar you can also hold that button down for the same effect, it’s an old DC & GC trick but I guess it works here too

General rules I live by for ULT and in general:

-Hunter/Ranged (personal preference)
ATA > ATP > 1600 HP
Hunter: Charge Mechs/Calibur/Diska/Raygun and you can solo clear episode 1 easy and comfortably. Most of these items are free or cost meseta. Your first actual purchase should be a Smartlink or a Heavenly Battle, then Arm Units.
Ranger: Charge Mechs/Raygun/Shot ASAP and you can clear most of the game honestly. First Purchase should be Heavenly Battle/Ranger Wall/Arm Units.

If you're a HUmar/RAmar and no FO is present, Shifta/Deband your allies, and Zalure/Jellen Bosses/Mini Bosses should be top prio, then Damage.

-Force (personal preference)
Party Play:
More Gear Oriented. You'll want to shoot for Glide Divine and then a Shifta/Resta Merge. Your job is buffing/debuffing and throwing out the occasional Rabarta/Gifoie to help manage enemies (not to deal damage)
For Stat Prio I generally stick to 1600~ HP and TP%Reduction, items like Mother Garb +, Psycho Wand, Dark Bridge, and Adept. You'll likely need a X/Technique Unit as even the best players don't have full sets of level 30 techs. Though Lvl 27+ techs are cheap and common, and a God Technique will easily boost it to 30.

Some players prefer not to be resta'd. If this is pre-agreed upon, try to oblige. In Pugs however, just keep everyone alive. You're not likely to run into this scenario outside of RES groups, and who wants to play with those people anyway ;) (I'm kidding I love those guys)

Solo Play:
Highest Techs you can get your paws on > MST > TP%Reduction Gear > HP > Tech Boost
https://www.pioneer2.net/community/threads/list-of-tech-boosts.965/
Standard Boot n'Nuke. Episode 4 is your friend, almost every mob is weak to fire.

-With >1600~ HP you can survive every attack in the game.
https://www.pioneer2.net/community/threads/hp-guide.8269/

-Plan your Material Usage before you use any Materials. Min/Max Builds are generally newb friendly, and can hide a lot of crimes when it comes to how your character was built late-game until you have the PD's to afford a proper build. But USE HP MATERIALS, they are independent from your material build and won't potentially negatively effect/botch a character.

-Take full advantage of your action bar. This is hard for DC/GC players to get used to, but being able to S/D Z/J Anti/Resta/Mate/Sol without using shortcut menus saves time and lives. This will free up room for more important abilities on your action pallet.

-Pick up Everything. Sell it for Meseta. Sell the Meseta to players. I got my first Red Ring this way.

-Set personal goals and don't look at your EXP bar. With most Section Id's, there's something worth hunting on every Hard+ Difficulty. Whether it's Photon Crystals and Merges to sell, those nifty Elemental Wands, Enemy Parts, or a high Hit% Diska of Braveman to keep for yourself. Hunting Sub Ultimate Items is a great way to breeze through the lower difficulties, granted you aren't obsessing over your experience points which can make it seem like it's taking forever.

-Up late? No one to play with? You can Solo level easily in Warrior's Pride at any difficulty. Including ULTIMATE! It's how I got from level 80-120 when seasons first started and there weren't many parties.

-Addons are a thing, and they're great.

-Reshade and Echelon's custom skins and mods can make for beautiful and refreshing gameplay, I can't speak for everyone but it helps to keep me going.

...unless you play RAmar? :lenny: Morfos scoffs at the unwitting RAmar who gobbles up HP Materials, only to feel the power of MUH LAZORZ!!!11one

Use any Power Materials you can find, while holding off on any others. Get a /battle unit better than General as soon as you can.
If you're a solo player, Chain Sawd or Last Survivor are great weapons to use for the heavy sustain provided.
