Wanted to say to the development team here, you did a very nice job of keeping PSOBB alive. I played it since I was a kid playing Dreamcast, then I played on Gamecube, then it went to private servers. I grew up watching broomop do a spectular act of programming, could give a fuck that he broke the law. It was impressive that he took the code and made it into a game in front of segas face. That server shut down because it was illegal. I then played SCHTServ, which I really enjoyed for 3=5 yearsish. Saw the changes to the 3 Dark weapons, and even had their special Rainbow sword is anyone recalls that thing, stronger than Dark Flow. Then I went to log in one day and it was all gone. Would like to know the truth behind what happened there.
Since then I wanted to make my own private server, being a network administrator currently and having done a good deal of computer programming, my main love has been writing and creative thinking. I felt to run a server it would take those two skill sets. And whoever did it here, did it better than me, broomop, or anyone else. Though have to thank broomop and especially Soly for creating the foundation of the code. But I ended up playing Ultima's server and liked the player base there and stayed there for 2 years playing and getting the best stuff in hopes of them surviving for a long time to come, I believe when I played Ephinea then, it was not at the place it is today. I came back after 2 years, I made my own server while not gaming much and it just isn't good enough to put out there as competition. Plus i didn't think splitting player bases made much sense.
But you guys half broke my heart/half gave me inspiration. Your server wins. Let me transfer my character over lol.

Schthack had actually come online during the final hours the SEGA servers were in their final Death Throes and were for the most part 'left alone', due to 'NO Money was being exchanged' and Cease and Desist letters were prolly already written out and ready to tap the ENTER key to Send....when they suddenly Smelled Blood in the water and figured out there was an actual global interest in what they saw as a game that started a genre then petered out...but NO...it stuck around~!! PSU....PSP....PSZero....and eventually the Gorgeous train wreck we couldn't look away from that is.....PSO2 (NGS). The Frenchman calling himself SCHTHACK and his trusty Co-founder WildONE Kept under SEGA's spite radar and gave us a loving home for years. Til it was taken over by a less talented but, moar 'motivated' purrson by the name of Crono. But mew will Dance that tale for you in a moment!

It was the year of 2008 when SEGA PSO GC/XBOX servers were in their final Death Throes when a Frenchman calling himself SCHTHACK and an equally interested warrior named WildONE had gotten a hold of freshly released source codes for PSO +(bb?) and created what is arguably the FIRST PSO 'Private server'. It first started as a whisper and gained maybe less than 100 players Worldwide...but when word got out...it Grew! SEGA, being the money mongers that they were had cast a leery eye over the fledgling spawn of their labors looking for an excuse to strike it out of its nest, only to find that NO Monies was exchanging hands and felt no need to spend the energy to act or Litigate. The first few years were peaceful and productive. Even Entities from well established Forum Communities like PSO-World started calling Scht 'Home'. Populations grew and they had even established Console support! PSOBB were playing along side DC/GC/XBOX...BUT Consolers being Consolers brought their Gamesharks...Action replays....etc....So that got ugly fast!
Now, Schthack found himself Presiding over quite the bustling community of colorful characters...some genuine...some ...NOT...and needed constant monitoring and correcting...Eventually Schthack being tired of the stress was looking for an 'out'...and was approached by a Passionate and semi-talented player named "Crono" who was actively trying to get EP3 to work online...(spoiler alert...it was a MESS!). And for some reason decided to hand the reins to this purrson! And What was the FIRST thing he did upon taking control??? It started innocently enough with $10 "Donations" and an exclusive membership into his Team called "Mr. Cat"...perks included %200 exp to paid members! This success only Whet his appetite and soon Customized 'Donation items' started to appear, Game Breaking...DUAL WEILDING Blood rusted Chain Sawds.....Rainbow Swords....Dragon Needles...Rainbow rings. This is when the TROLLS came! Players from 'OTHER Servers' saw what was happening and wanted a Piece of that sweet Donations Booty! So they started DDoS attacking the server trying to get us to Quit and join Their servers *cough Ultima*! This got SO BAD that Crono even asked for help publicly to help DONATE moar to find us a new secure Host server...So mew and others donated $100's and for a short time.... it WORKED! Once re-established, Crono began rebuilding his little empire, but needed Moar staff to help Police his Cash Cow with making sure no one was Trading or duping his money making items. And for a while, there he was making monies paw over fist chillin' like a villain even going as far as to ask $85 for a PGF! Then...his own staff started wondering..."Why was HE getting all the monies for the Work THEY were doing 'adding quests' , distributing donation items/monitoring....?" So they decided to demand to get PAID for their services! This kept them happy, for a while. Then one night....
it Happened ....Whenever someone would find a PGF they would get a Banner, right? Well, one night there was a PGF Banner every 30 seconds! THEN a Hacked Banner appeared..."$85 For a PGF? Seriously Crono?? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!". And immediately after that, our own Admin had posted a Banner "You SEE Crono? If you had PAID me this wouldn't be Happening!". Apparently, the money Crono was making from SCHTSERV was drying up and he couldn't pay his staff! So...what was happening was...the Trolls were coming to schthack and offering to PAY them to come work at THEIR servers! SO as a Middle finger in the air to Crono
as they walked away, the staff would give away their admin accounts....we were getting hacked from the INSIDE! And WHAT did Crono do? He did the Only thing his panicked little brain could think of...Tired of watching his Cash Cow get OWNED....one night.... We Crashed. No biggie, we Crash All the time! We'll be back up in a few minutes!...right? RIGHT?...Minutes turned Hours...When hours turned days....mew's Battered Silhouette could be seen in the background of the forums trying to keep everyone together...NO Word from Crono. When Days turned Weeks... Whispers of a new server was heard...a "Vanilla server"......Ephinea. Mew, like others refused at first to just let go of Years of tears and toil...But after a month or so Crono Finally came on the forums and said .... And mew Quotes.... "Sorry guys! I Lost All our Data!".

FUCK do you "LOSE" 8 YEARS worth of Data??? Mew was donating $20 a month for years for free in hopes it was for "Maintenance"...Apparently it was to 'Maintain" His car.... his Phone...His ENGAGEMENT RING...His Move Out of El Paso....Eventually Schthack-samas and WildONE-samas regained control over the server, but the damage was done and we never looked back! Mew even heard Crono changed his name to Felix and tried reviving Mr.Cat..... X'D! And there's the sad story of our beloved Schthack
