can't enter id and password

Hey there concerned citizens!

I'm new to the server and just trying to get logged in but it wont let me type in my username and password. The keyboard works just fine in the login screen (I can hit enter and scroll with arrows) and I have IME turned off but I just can't type, and therefore log in. Please let me know if anybody has any suggestions!

Just an update:
Got it working turns out the Microsoft surface go doesn't have direct x installed automatically, or at least the required version. Downloaded it and good to go if anyone ever has the same issue!
