It appears you are correct. It seems the issue was my mapitem.txt was too long. I removed some items and it fixed the issue. It would be nice if there was a way to set the map dot color for all rare items at the same time. Here is what my mapitem.txt was.

Setting a color for Photon Drops or Event Eggs in mapitem.txt doesn't work because it gets overridden by the default color red and light blue. 001003,00FFFF # Photon Drop = 031000 051003,00FFFF # Event Egg = 031005
