    OG Phantasy Star was 1987 or something. It did NOT survive the test of time, but they did re-release it in 2008 for the DS (according to a quick Google search)

    The 2008 DS game you're thinking of was Phantasy Star 0. The only attempt to remake the originals was a series of Playstation 2 remakes, though they only did I and II before they stopped, and the games never left Japan.
