You are my soul mate, Mommy Rem. I actually prefer Jazz Basses over the Stingray style, so while I'm in awe of Joe Dart, I don't really feel a need to own one. My current bass is a Sire V7 in Antique White.

The Sire V7 & up are pretty solid. I've got a MIJ Fender 62 Jazz Bass reissue & a fretless Carvin as my only two right now, but I'm about to pull the trigger on somethin' nice off of Reverb. There's an Alembic for $2k that's trying to tear an extra $500 of my savings onto my budget though, it's too much temptation.

Alembics are absolutely gorgeous. And incredibly expensive. Finding one for $2000 is honestly a great deal. If I were to ever get an Alembic, it'd have to be the Mark King Signature. Also, I am a huge fan of the MIJ Fenders, especially the older ones. For me, it was between one of those and the Sire. Ultimately I decided on the Sire, as it was a nice price and has the active EQ on it.

I found a Zon, an Alembic, a few Spectors, a Serek, and two Clement basses all in my budget for fivers, but only one is fretless, so it's what I'm leaning towards. Wish it were the Alembic.

This is just my personal opinion, but I wouldn't really want to get a Spector or a Zon. They are very expensive, don't suit my sound but also don't have the best QC. I'd go for a Clement out of all of those (albeit after a quick Google search). All that said, try before you buy. If you find an outstanding example, go for it.

Clement is a very "late-'00s TalkBass-approved" builder, and I mean that in the best of ways.

I presume you're talking about Tom Clement?

From what I can see, those basses are very similar to those made by Fodera and the early Alembics.
