High GPU usage when playing the game

Hello,

I have recently started playing PSO again and I am surprised by the high GPU usage of the game.
I have a 3080Ti and I'm talking about a constant 50-60% use at all times, with my GPU fans running crazy.

Here are my settings :

I don't believe the other options page are relevant.

Is there anything I can do to reduce usage without degrading quality too much ? I know some settings may be a bit overkill like Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic filter, but I assume they should be fine considering it's a 20 years old game.
Anyway, it's a mild annoyance, but I'd be glad if it can be improved.

Best regards !

Anit-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering are actually pretty intensive, even for a 20 year old game. I suggest trying SMAA and AF 8x or 4x. There wont be much of a difference visually but it will be way less intensive on the GPU.

Or you could make use of your GPU, its not harming it with those settings. They just do a surprising amount for how old the game is.

Just tested your suggestions and it's much better. Indeed, I can't really see any difference.

I agree, it's just that my GPU gets really noisy when the fans go wild and I'd rather avoid that :)

Anisotropic filtering is pretty much free, especially on a 3080 TI. You will struggle to see the difference between 16x/8x outside of Crater Interior if you're running a toaster and reading this post, I guess. HSAA is a (relatively) expensive method of anti-aliasing, but at 1440 your GPU shouldn't be struggling enough to hit 60% usage. The wrappers used for DX9 and above are very finicky with individual setups. You should probably try tweaking that instead (although you might as well use SMAA Ultra if you're not using SSAA regardless.)
