Patch server connection

I'm in the hospital.
I'm connected to the hospital's open wifi.
I uninstalled Norton just to be absolutely sure.
When I got to start up the game, the launcher sits at 0% updating.
If I cancel, I can start the game but it gives me a failed to connect to patch server error.
I can't try a different hotspot because I don't get service in the building.
No clue what to do.

If it is the wifi that means they have some sort of port blocking, right?

Now if I cancel and go in it just sits at Connecting to Server...

It might be blocked yeah, if so there's nothing you can really do unfortunately. Wifi with Phantasy star games, especially public wifi will always be spotty at best.

Is there anything to get around this? I tried a VPN, but that didn't seem to make a difference. I have no idea personally.

Do you have a smartphone with shared connection? I played PSO on the 3G/4G of my phone for a couple months just fine, couldn't access any wifi where i was at that time.

No, as I said I can't get any signal inside the building on my phone in order to share the darn thing.
