Hello there!

Today, the game has been updated to v1417.

With this update, support for Direct3D 11 is added through dgVoodoo and some code changes of my own.

Direct3D 11 support is still kind of beta, like Direct3D 9 is, but there are some things you should note:

1. When utilizing Direct3D 11, the game will no longer crash if your desktop is locked, screen shuts off, dims, or whatever. The game will continue to run without issue.

2. SMAA currently does not work in Direct3D 11. MSAA and SSAA, however, DO work, and SSAA looks much better than it did on Direct3D 9. In fact, I'd say it's probably better than SMAA, though you'll still need more processing power to pull off SSAA vs. SMAA. (I'm working on getting SMAA going on Direct3D 11, so hang tight!)

3. MSAA still has reflection issues, so please use SSAA if you want to use antialiasing on Direct3D 11.

4. Using SSAA while using classic full screen mode causes a flicker that I haven't been able to resolve yet. (Working on this...)

5. Classic full screen mode hangs when you ALT+TAB. (Working on this...)

6. Because of #4 and #5, I'd say to avoid exclusive full screen mode and stick with virtual full screen mode, as most have done with D3D8 and D3D9.

7. Frame pacing issues seem to be improved a lot when running Direct3D 11. (Even while in windowed mode.)

8. I'm working on adding the ability for users to use their own HLSL files, sort of like how RetroArch and such allow you to do, so you can use filters that you chose while playing the game without the need for external software like ReShade, etc.

For Direct3D 9 mode, I've added 2 new antialiasing options which combine SSAA + SMAA for improved antialiasing.

I think that's all I've done for this update..

You can pick the new Direct3D 11 rendering API and antialiasing options by downloading the new launcher from inside the game. Once the launcher downloads, run online.exe and go to "Options".

We hope you enjoy it and thanks for playing on Ephinea!

Edit: Also remember, your bbmod plugin needs to be at the latest version (which was only just recently released), so that the GUI is not insanely small. Download it here: https://github.com/Solybum/psobbaddonplugin/releases

This flagged my antivirus for the first time in a while. Not an issue, just a heads up.
Don't need posts like these because I don't really care about them.

Nothing I put out has a virus and these posts aren't helpful at all.

Antivirus scanners are pretty much trash and give off false detections all the time.

If you haven't put an exception for the Ephinea folder by now, that's on you, not me.

For the paranoid who still would panic and think about posting that their AV went off due to an update because they think I'm either stupid enough to get infected or want to infect the lot of you, the latest virus totals...

Ephinea.DLL (0 detections):

dgVoodoo_d3d8d.DLL (2 false positives):

I… didn’t think you did anything malicious or messed up? I am pretty sure I have an exception on the folder. This was more to let other people know in case theirs gets flagged and the game won’t start because their dll gets quarantined, since it hasn’t been an issue for me in years. But I won’t post that anymore I guess.

Ephinea has ALWAYS triggered SOME sort of "Trojan" or "Spyware" from WINDefenders or Malwarebytes defense...for years we just Whitelist it and carry on our happy way! Nothing we're not used to~!

Mew can now go AFK to make her grilled cheese or Tuna sammiches wiffout returning to a blank NO MORE PSO screen! TYTYTYTY! <3

So I updated bbaddons like it says to, but the addon GUIs are still super small. Anything else I was supposed to do?

Either the update was applied incorrectly or there is something wrong with your settings.

Also the small GUI only happens with SSAA on the old versions. If you have small GUI for all settings, then it’d be your configuration.

Try going into "Settings editor" in the LUA menu and up your font size. I had to change mine from 16 to 24 after the updates

No dice. Ended up just going back to 9, not like I really need to use 11.

I want the better frame pacing, but something seems broken with 11. It is exponentially more demanding performance wise. Crashes quickly with any form of virtual fullscreen MSAA+2160 or SSAA+2160, almost unplayable on virtual fullscreen 2160, and some sort of frequent slowdown issue on window 1080.

I was able to adjust the font size for LUA without any issues.

Normally I can do any combination of AA on 2160 with zero issues on 9 and 8 (well, from the driver and the newly added MSAA - haven't tried other newly added methods yet.)

Back to 9 I guess!

Amendment: This appears to be a software specific issue. Sodab sent me a fix attempt that ended up revealing some sort of conflict with my configuration that (currently) only exposes itself with Blue Burst. Ryan apparently has similar problems while SodaG doesn't on the same GPU (different setup, he is a high roller.)

My tried and true dgvoodoo.conf settings include setting FastVideoMemoryAccess=true (massive performance improvement with no bugs in my own testing, though this should only really matter for reshade users), and I also set PresentationModel=flip_discard (this allows tearing/proper vsync behavior with virtual fullscreen/windowed as well as functional gsync/freesync support). I strongly suggest making both of these options the default in the config file. You may need to provide a vsync option as well, or simply enable it by default in the file because...honestly who wants locked 30 fps with tearing.

No problem! I've been meaning to update my post about dgvoodoo2 since that option was made available, but with you integrating it there isn't much point anymore :p. The effort is much appreciated.
