How does Death Penalty work in the official servers for PSOBB?

I played vanilla BB but it's been a long time. I believe you would lose 10% of whatever you had gained toward the next level. But it would reduce a bit if you died over and over. Leveling down was not possible. (I do not know for sure.) The worst possible scenario for this would be if you were...

No. There are documented cases of the USA version of home console games being significantly harder. Castlevania 3 for NES is one of the most egregious examples. I thought this was commonly known.

I appreciate the thoughtful perspective. The sincerity of the response shows me that people really do enjoy the difficulty. I have the skill; if only the enjoyment would naturally follow. Maybe flashes of it happened here and there and I need to be more mindful about collecting and retaining...

True. The Souls games have rather annoyingly built in plot conveniences for why you can try infinite times. But the bosses don’t learn or get any better, so it just seems fake to me. Your positive attitude is contagious, I must admit. It helped a little :3

Also TY for being positive and kind. I know my perspective on this is not normal.

I don't mind the stamina system. I just don't understand the appeal of chipping away at a boss and winning on the 100th attempt. If you think about it from a narrative perspective: You died on your first attempt. So you're dead. The bad guys won. Everything that happened after that is phony and...

-_-; It was fun to read though :3 I'm not jealous of the ability, since I have it. I guess I am "jealous" that people find this sort of difficulty enjoyable, and I don't. So now I wonder if anyone actually enjoys it. Your metaphor is silly because I CAN jump the rope. (I just hate it.)...

I agree with this, and my apologies. I shouldn’t call those things “cheese.” But I felt the need to specify that I did not use those mechanics to preemptively diffuse the “Oh, you didn’t actually beat the game then” comments that I envisioned were incoming. My mistake. And I mean that.

Yes, for many years! And they’re great. This was more or less an introspective experiment.

This is a historically inaccurate and overly-romanticized account of how game difficulty came to be. The reason games were hard back in the day, and the reason so many U.S versions of games were much harder than their Japanese counterparts (ie. Bayou Billy, Castlevania 3, Ninja Gaiden 3, etc.)...

    Rare Findings and/or Accomplishment Thread

I upgraded my ND Heaven Striker, so combined with my big CR I bought in October, I'm very happy with my RAcast's basic loadout. (I don't usually carry Zalure needle but had it on me for POD for the boss cave.)

I think picking it apart does matter because it signifies pushback from a paying customer that should be just as valuable as any other opinion. Way too many studios seem to think that everyone wants hard-as-balls games now because of how vocal the “git gud” community is. I set out to prove that...

See? Don't say "it's not for me." That statement makes me angry. It's a nice way of saying, "You can't handle it." THAT is why I finished all the games, so people can't say things like that to me. I can authoritatively state I can handle these games. I beat the entire catalog while placing...

IDK what that is, but presently I'm taking a long and well-deserved break from difficult games.

Yeah. I actually love Elden Ring, Bloodborne, and DS3 because they give you the tools needed to overcome a boss, and it's about 50% skill, and the other 50% is finding useful gear or grinding. That is a good mix, IMO. That way the burden isn't 100% on my shoulders. But yeah, my desire was to...
